Visitor Poll # 1

April 26, 2007

In the last major update of the site the Visitor Poll went missing. Here we go again… if you would take a couple seconds to provide your thoughts. We are really about to get cooking around here (lots of new announcements pending…) and I am very interested in what you might find useful at the Owen.

The word is out on the street now and people are asking me just what is theOwen.com. The sidebar over there says its a “new media platform…” but truth be told even I’m not sure.

I have more than a few ideas of what I would like to do with theOwen.com and I will continue to pick away, adding new features, info and opportunities to the site.

The real question then is what would you like to do here? Drop your thoughts in the form below and keep an eye out for Visitor Poll #2 real soon.

Look for a number of new changes in May

April 17, 2007

the new logo for theOwen.comFirst off, a thanks to everyone who has provided thoughts and feedback on th site during the past month and a bit since we went “sort of” live. There are a number of changes in the works including a new look, some site layout changes and a long list of other things. To be one of the first to see the new site you should definitely visit us at HickTech where a number of the changes will be unveiled and discussed. More on the conference to come but for now I am off to th barbecue as t weather is not nearly as cold as it has been in the past few weeks!

Take Part in Hick Tech

April 12, 2007

Things are as busy as can be around here and as a result the number of posts and the addition of new content has been very low as of late. This is directly a result of the work being completed for the next major release of theOwen.com which should take place around the beginning of May.

hicktechThis is aptly timed of course to coincide with Hick Tech, the Rural and Modern Technology Forum. The conference is being organized by Emma Hogbin, a homegrown, and recently repatriated, local IT superstar. When she isn’t hard at work with conference planning Emma runs her own web/technology consulting business @ xtrinsic.com

I had the opportunity to interview Emma today about Hick Tech and what’s in store for the conference and why you should be there. Our conversation was rounded out with some more general discussion of the state of technological adoption locally and some of the challenges and and opportunities this presents.

The audio is around 20 minutes in length, you can listen in you browser with the play button below or you can download the mp3 file here (right click save as…)
