Wild Places Wild Hearts, Allen Smutylo’s Book Release

On the evening of Tuesday the 15th in the Tom Thomson Art Gallery Allen Smutylo is releasing his new book, “Wild Places Wild Hearts, Nomads of the Himalayas”. The event will begin at 7pm. There is no cover charge and all are welcome.

The book is an account of Allen’s travels in the Himalayas with a nomadic tribe of Buddhists known as the Changpa. The author’s experiences with these peoples are explored through storytelling and over 130 colour plates. The author’s website has this to say about the work: “Deeply spiritual, compassionate and archaic, the nomads’ culture has startling relevance for Western society.”

The book is being released in hardcover only. It has 320 pages and is priced at $60. It is co-published by Allen Smutylo and the Tom Thomson Art Gallery. For more information please visit Allen Smutylo’s website or come out to the opening on Tuesday night!

    Adam and I attended the Book Release last night. Excellent turnout and a everyone should really get their hands on a copy of this book. I recorded the remarks and a short reading by Allen. Hopefully we can get it posted soon!
