Adam Reese-Local Musician Profile

May 17, 2007

Adam ReeseAdam Reese has been singing soulful melodies since sound hit the Sound. His poetic sensibility is deeply touching and humane. There is a raw vulnerability and tender strength in his voice. His storytelling speaks of the sprawling Canadian landscape, and his tales of endearing human moments fill that landscape with a distinctly Canadian conciousness. If you were looking for the next voice of Canadiana, this is it.

Hailing out of Owen Sound but hunting down the muse on the highways of the western provinces, he worked his chops in such musical meccas as Saltspring Island, where he was a regular solo show at the infamous Tree-House Cafe and were he pumped the Crybaby for The Wierdlings. In Victoria he was doing shows with the inspirational Stephen Medeiros, working tenderly arranged renditions of the legends of Americana, the Grateful Dead. In Nelson his collaborative work with Adrian Wagner was cut short after soaring off a cliff in a Mazda MPV on the east shore of Kootenay Lake. 140 feet of vertical descent later Adam decided that returning home to recover his health was in order.

As his bones knit his itch grew, and he gathered the people around him that he needed. Owen Sound was just waiting for him with such personelle as the great Peter Devlin, legendary gunslinger and all around old school bro. These two ripped it up all across town making a name for themselves as the best thing happening on a Wednesday night through their weekly jams at Jazzmyn’s. Soon they were joined by the incomparable Scott E. Farmer on the keys, a man who needs no introduction due to his truly psychaedelic work with the Burt Neilson Band and The Russian Futurists. Eventually these three took on the name FDR, and they can be found by myspace searching farmerdevlinandreese. They soon added swingman Joel Morrelli, the musical uber-dude who
would add yet a fourth layer of harmony to their already heart-swelling sound along with lending his solid touch on the bass and his unneringly crystalline tone on the mandolin.

Adam is now summering in Owen Sound and is looking for gigs. In the fall he’ll return to Victoria BC to finish his undergraduate studies in writing and English literature. Presented here are a few of his diamonds in the rough, recorded at various stages in his travels. He hopes they’ll entertain…
