The Week Past, the Week to Come
May 18, 2007
Here begins a new Friday ritual at theOwen.com, that being a quick re-hashing of this weeks posts and a brief outline of what to expect next week. First off we would like to point you in the direction of our new local musician profiles for FDR&M and Adam Reese. These represent the first of many, and we strongly encourage you local musicians to check them out. You will notice at the bottom of the profiles a link to more local musicians. If you click on this you will be presented with the opportunity to create your own profile. Please send us your profile and upcoming show information so we can post it for you. Together we can really get the live music scene rolling here in Owen Sound!
This week we also posted a piece on the history of Victoria Day. Find out why it’s called Victoria Day when common sense surely dictates that we should really be celebrating “Elizabeth Day”.
After your weekend of fun and sun you may be feeling a need to do some selfless acts for your fellow living creatures. One great opportunity to do so is presented in our post on The Salon’s upcoming Cops for Cancer Shave-Off. They are looking for volunteers to collect pledges and lose some hair, but also for donations of baked goods for their sale, as well as raffle items for their raffle table. Yours truly will be losing his flowing locks at this event and I encourage you to get in touch with me regarding pledge donations at adam[@] theOwen.com.
Planned for next week we have a follow-up to our post on Allen Smutylo’s release of his new book, Wild Places Wild Hearts.

The follow-up will take the form of an artist’s profile and will include audio from Allen’s recent reading at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery. Look forward to an in-depth podcast interview with this great Canadian artist and adventurer. His will be the first in a series of profiles dedicated to the many amazing local visual artists that enrich this area and make us known throughout the country as a cultural and artistic centre.
This years 150th Homecoming anniversary is another opportunity to share our beautiful community with the world. Look forward to many articles related to Homecoming here at theOwen.com between now and the first weekend in August. Next week we will be talking with Sandy Stevenson from the alumni committee and the city’s steering committee to get some specifics about Homecoming events in the works at the OSCVI. This article will be replete with useful links and tantalizing events to get you excited for the upcoming celebrations.
Thanks for joining us this week, and we’ll see you after the weekend! Have fun play safe!
Adam & Ryan
