Explore Your Musical Self

This coming Sunday June 3rd at 1 p.m. younger local musicians have a wonderful opportunity to learn from the pros about a wide variety of music industry variables. The event is called “Explore Your Musical Self: The Road to Summerfolk”, and it is being run through the Georgian Bay Folk Society. The event will take place at the Old Courthouse, 1235 3rd Ave. East, Owen Sound. Admission is free, and the workshops and mentoring sessions are available to all musicians between the ages of 13-20. Your friendly correspondent wishes he were 11 years younger! Workshop topics include Recording, Business and Promotions, The Art of Song, Performing With Confidence and Playing with Others. Included amoungst the workshop hosts are:

Justin Burgess: Operates a Recording Studio in Hanover, recording and producing projects for various artists.

Gregg Dechert: Keyboard player has performed with Bad Company, Uriah Heep and David Gilmore of Pink Floyd.

Richard Knechtel: Summerfolk artistic director has carved out a successful music career.

Steve Ritchie: Managed the booking for “Tanglefoot”, performing throughout Canada, U.S. and British Isles.

Corin Raymond &Sean Cotton: Create some of the country’s most unique music as The Undesirables.
