The Tom Thomson Art Gallery, the Friends of Leith Church and other community partners, have collaborated to present the sixth annual Tom Thomson Days, a festival of art, music, literature, history and remembrance from July 25 to August 5 in Owen Sound and Leith. This festival celebrates the artist and highlights his connection with this region.

Born August 5, 1877, the Canadian landscape painter, Tom Thomson spent the first 21 years of his life in and around Owen Sound and the village of Leith. Thomson’s paintings of the Canadian landscape have come to typify the nation’s engagement with the sublime beauty of a northern land. Thomson’s life tragically ended in 1917, his body was laid to rest in the in Leith churchyard. In 1967, Owen Sound dedicated its new public art gallery as a memorial to Thomson.
