Weekend Events On the Calendar in Owen Sound
June 28, 2007
Once again there is altogether too much happening in town this weekend to possibly take it all in & that’s just the way we like it here at theOwen.com! Let’s start with Friday night, an evening with many enticing musical possibilities. First off I’ve got a shameful plug. Joel Morelli and myself (Adam Reese) will be playing this Friday June 29th at Jazzmyn’s Tapas and Taps. If the weather is warm we’ll be playing on Jazzmyn’s cozy back patio. We may have a guest appearance from legendary guitarist Pete Devlin, though this hasn’t been confirmed.
Also on Friday night, Blue Rodeo will be up the peninsula playing at the Wiarton and District Community Centre. Tickets are $33.50 and doors open at 7:30 p.m. For more information phone the Parks and Recreation Department at (519) 534-1400, Ext. 130. I am personally a little upset that this great Canadian country-rock outfit is playing in such an intimate environment and I’m not able to be there.
Getting out of the music scene, tomorrow also marks the beginning of the 2007 Georgian Horse Expo. The expo will be a 3 day exposition and trade fair. There will be breeds demonstrations, training clinics, country music and much more. The expo is an opportunity to promote your school, club or business. On top of all this excitement there will be 3 feature shows from master horse trainer Lew Sterrett!
On Saturday there is another special musical event happening at the Rusty Gull. How often can we go for a quick bike ride to see Calypso music in this town? Not very often I tell you. Well, on Saturday June 30th you’ll have just such an opportunity because Syl Macintosh will be playing his saxophone with a Calypso band from the islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Now of course Sunday is the best and most exuberantly celebrated of all statutory holidays… of course it’s CANADA DAY!!! There will be fun for the whole family down at Kelso beach. To find out about Owen Sound’s Canada Day Celebrations just follow the link provided.
OK Owen Sound, we’ve once again enlightened you in terms of just how much amazing stuff is happening in this town. Now it’s up to you. Get out there and have fun!!
