Brian Moniz CD Release Party!
July 13, 2007
This Friday July the 13th Brian Moniz will transcend all superstitions & bad luck by unleashing his latest studio effort entitled, “Outlaws & Underdogs”.
The CD release party will take place at Jazzmyn’s Tapas and Taps on 8th Street, downtown Owen Sound. Many of Brian’s musical friends will be playing and singing alongside the man of the hour including Pete Devlin, Joel Morelli, Tommy Gilham (a man who has written and sold a whole lot of music to big record labels), producer Paul Farrow and also appearances by Neil Towers & yours truly, Adam Reese. Along with the musicians, Brian has hinted that there will be some special appearances from surprise guests. It is shaping up to be a joyous evening of musical jams, beer and good friends down at what is for many people a favorite neighbourhood pub. The event will be a hot ticket so reservations are recommended. For reserve seating call Jazzmyn’s at (519) 371-7736.
This CD is difficult to classify. It reflects Brian’s personal musical tastes, incorporating the sounds of late eighties stadium rock, hip-hop rhythms inspired by Tupac Shakur, political lyrics charged with an anger inspired by a genuine compassion for humanity reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Neil Young or even Rage Against the Machine, and a penchant for sampling that reminds this listener of old Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. The instrumentation is stellar and the vocals charged with Brian’s huge passionate voice. The production quality on the CD is enviable especially given the challenges put before Paul Farrow to incorporate such disparate genres of music. This is one of the most successfully ambitious albums to come out of Owen Sound in a long while. For those with some loyalty to the area and our fine local musicians, this is a must-have album. Copies of “Outlaws & Underdogs” will be for sale for $15 dollars each at the event. Here is an interview we did with Brian and “Outlaws & Underdogs” producer, Paul Farrow.
Track 1: Interview with Brian Moniz and Paul Farrow
Brian’s video for “Ghosts of 9-11″ has been in the top ten on Neil Young’s Living With War website since October. Although the video has been sitting above such big names as Pearl Jam, Kris Kristofferson and Bruce Springsteen, Brian stresses that the songs and musicians on that list are working together to see an end to the war in Iraq rather than competing for top spot.
For more information about Brian Moniz and his music, please visit our local musician profile for him. There you will find his summer performance schedule, links to his various websites, and the means to get in touch with him. A quick look will be all it takes to know that this man is for real, so make it out to Jazzmyn’s on Friday July 13th for the release of Brian Moniz’s new CD, “Outlaws & Underdogs”. Many thanks to Paul Farrow for coming into theOwen.com for the interview, and of course many thanks to Brian for providing us with some sample tracks from the new album, and for offering his time for this interview.
