This Crazy Weekend in Music!
July 13, 2007
Holy Moly! Once again there’s sooo much happening on the Bruce Peninsula that it’s hard to know where to start! My personal favorite topic is live music, so let’s start there.
First off of course is Brian Moniz’s CD release party. The Brian Moniz Band will be playing songs from Brian’s new album, “Outlaws and Underdogs” starting at 8 p.m. down at Jazzmyn’s on 8th street in downtown Owen Sound. The evening will be a glorious celebration of music with many of Brian’s friends out to jam along with Jazzmyn’s typically amazing suds and grub. The event will be really packed so reservations are strongly suggested for those hoping to sit and eat. Brian will be selling copies of his new CD for $15.
Next up on the agenda we have the amazing re-opening of the Uptowne Piano & Jazz bar. Yours truly (Adam Reese) will be playing what is thus far a solo gig at the Uptowne on Saturday night of the weekend. The show will be starting at 9 p.m. and will run through until 1 in the morning. I’m going to be one tired puppy after that one! But that’s not all for Saturday! I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the Knox Acoustic Cafe will be hosting Brian Macmillan. Doors open at 8 p.m. and if I didn’t have a gig lined up I would be there. But that’s not all! For you die-hard music fans the impeccable Bill & CJ will be rockin’ it up at Jazzmyn’s on Saturday as well. Perhaps a Saturday night venue crawl is called for! But that’s not all! On Saturday Nura and Stuart Steinhartthe will be playing at the Chaise Lounge starting at 7 p.m. There is even more going on on Saturday night but my boss always complains that my posts run long so in the name of brevity I’m going to suggest you take a look at our Live Music Listings. I do believe you’ll find them very illuminating and useful.
On Sunday the Harbour Nights series will continue with what is, due to rain delays, the first concert of the season. This Sunday at the Marine & Rail museum will be a focus on dynamic duos. The evening will be opened by Adam Reese and Joel Morelli. As I myself AM Adam Reese I can’t claim to speak of this act without bias but let me tell you, we put on an amazing show that should not be missed! We will be followed up by another amazing duo, James Dykeman & Enio Mascherin. Sunday night is also a big night at the Harb as three rockin’ bands will be playing. Hunter Valentine, Rides Again, and show-openers Deadinside will be playing an all ages show. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the music starting at 7:30 p.m. If any of you disenfranchised Owen Sound teenagers don’t make it out to this show you will have forfeited your right to complain that nothing ever happens in this town. (PS~in my experience, small town kids are smarter because they figure out how to make their own fun!) Tickets to the show are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Have fun! Wear earplugs!
That’s the rundown on local music this weekend! Remember that you can always find out what music is happening where in town by visiting theOwen.com’s Live Music Listings ! Also remember that to have your musical event promoted on theOwen.com you need only contact us!
