Release of “Outlaws & Underdogs” a Huge Success
July 17, 2007
Brian Moniz truly did overcome all bad luck on Friday the 13th of July with a massively successful release party for his new CD, “Outlaws & Underdogs”. Jazzmyn’s was packed shoulder to shoulder. The bar had to be restocked on several occasions and at times drinks were refused to people because all the glassware was being used! Brian sold 70 copies of “Outlaws & Underdogs”, and raffled off his last T-shirt for $65!
Brian was in his glory all night long. His favorite neighbourhood pub was filled to capacity with all his friends and supporters. As he began his first set break he stood atop his elevated stage and looked out over the crowd with a mixture of pride, bliss and relief. He invited this reporter up to take a look and I have certainly never seen Jazzmyn’s as busy or as jubilant as that evening.
Brian was joined on stage by his long-time jamming partner, Pete Devlin. Neil Towers added his sold percussion to the mix from the side of the stage. The three of them ripped through songs from the new CD and from Brian’s older material. The performance showed confidence, clarity and passion. They also ran through many of Brian’s favorite covers. Strands of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” were followed by Brian’s big single, “Ghosts of 9-11″. To listen to this track or to watch Brian’s video for the song visit his Local Musician’s Profile.
Neil Young’s brother Bob was a special guest at the party along with several local celebrity guest performers. Brian graciously invited Joel Morelli and Adam Reese up to the stage to play a set of their fine brand of soulful music. Pete Devlin joined them for some harmonies.
Finally, Rebeca Johnson-Morelli took the stage and belted it out as only she can. The sibling harmonies were something to hear!
Brian and Pete then got back up and took the evening home. People left satisfied and smiling . For those that missed the event Brian’s CD “Outlaws & Underdogs” is being sold around town at Randy’s Records on 8th St. East or at our downtown office located at 916 2nd Ave. East in the old Golden Dragon building.
