Homecoming Kids Have Talent!
August 1, 2007
The kids of Homecoming have proven to be a very talented lot! This week’s “Kids Have Talent” event gave Homecoming youth an opportunity to show off their skills, and they came out in numbers. Participants witnessed everything from ballet to bagpipes, from East Indian dancing to Elvis impersonating! There were three age categories and hence three children who walked away with winning plaques. The 4-8 year old category was won by Bayleigh Hooper, an 8 year old from Owen Sound. Bayleigh did a ballet piece to
Survivor’s hit, “Eye of the Tiger”. Runner up in this category was Maeve Paterson, 8, of Elmwood, who sang a Hillary Duff tune.

(The other participants in the 4-8 year old category were: Ariana Alexander, 4 yrs. old of Owen Sound; Brooklyn Hewton, 6 yrs. old, of Miller Lake; Maeve Paterson, 8, Elmwood)
The 9-13 year old category was won by Spencer Bristow, a 12 year old from Durham who did an amazing Elvis impersonation. You should have seen him shakin’, rattlin’ and rollin’! Runner up in this category was also the person from farthest away. Daniel Read, 9, had come all the way from Cambridge, England. Accompanied by his younger sister, he performed “Jolly Holiday” from Mary Poppins.

(The other participants in the 9-13 year old category were: Danielle Read, 9 yrs. old of Bristow; Samantha English, 11 yrs. old of Owen Sound; Soorya Gakhar, 12 yrs. old of Owen Sound; Avi Grewal, 13 yrs. old of Owen Sound; Jamie Stiller, 11 yrs. old of Chatsworth)
The 14-18 year old category was won by Jenna McEachran, a 15 year old from Blenheim. She showed a remarkably mature and strong voice for someone so young. The runner-up in this category was Michael Smith who played the bagpipes in full Scottish regalia. His very clever decision to dedicate the happy birthday song to the city of Owen Sound on it’s 150th anniversary was a very classy touch!

Winners receive a marketing consultation with Anne Finley-Stewart of Rhymes With Orange, an experienced local publicist, a professional head shot photograph from Sari Studios, a “Local Artist Profile” on theOwen.com (yay!), and pre-booked performances at the closing ceremonies of Homecoming (Sunday Aug. 5th at 4 p.m.), the Owen Sound Salmon Derby kids day (Sunday August 26th, noon), and an Owen Sound Attack Hockey Game (date t.b.d.). Thanks so much to all the sponsors and families that took part in this fun and enriching event! We will leave you with a gallery of photos from the “Kids Have Talent” show.

Hi everyone in Owen Sound,
I wanted to take this opportunity now that I have arrived home safely and caught up on my rest, to thank everyone for the wonderful experience at Owen Sound’s 150th Homecoming events. I was thrilled to be chosen the winner of the age 14-18 category of the Youth Have Talent Competition and I hope to be able to attend and perform at the closing ceremonies on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007. I am also so looking forward to performing at the Salmon Derby Kids Day as well as singing the national anthem for the Attack hockey team. I look forward to seeing you all very soon. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
With regards,
Jenna McEachran
