This Weekend in Music

August 10, 2007

Brian MonizOnce again this weekend there are some very interesting live music experiences to be had. On Friday August 10th (tonight!) the Brian Moniz Band will be rockin’ it out at Jazzmyn’s starting at roughly 7pm. Tonight the band will feature Joel Morelli, Neil Towers, Adam Reese, and of course the man himself, Brian Moniz!

Friday night also features the famous country stylings of George Fox. The show is being held at the Meaford Hall, 1-12 Nelson St. E., Meaford, Ontario. The music will be starting at 8pm and will run until 10pm. Tickets for the show are $40.

With a mantle of country music awards, 8 albums to his credit and a street named after him in his hometown, George Fox has traveled the world. He has opened for some of the biggest names in country music and sold out shows from coast to coast. George Fox is definitely a headliner for the Country Festival.~This copy provided by the Meaford Hall web site.

Saturday night is thick with music in town. The Chaise Lounge will be featuring Nura & Stuart Steinhart with an evening of contemporary jazz beginning at 7pm. Jazzmyn’s will be featuring Lincoln Miller starting at 7pm. At the Leith Church The Arthur Leblanc Quartet will perform. The quartet consists of Jean-Luc Plourde on the viola, Ryan Molzan on cello, Brett Molzan on violin, and Hibiki Kobayashi on violin. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Ginger Press in Owen Sound, the Annan-Way Nursery or Muxlow’s in Meaford.

Tel Quel Show FlyerAlso on the listings for Saturday night in Owen Sound is a unique opportunity to hear the mixing of locally produced electronic music with live instrumentation. Starting at 8pm and running until 10pm, Joshua Richardson and theOwen.com will be presenting an evening of live electronic music. Joshua Richardson produces and composes electronic music in his home studio under the pseudonym of Tel Quel. You can find out more about Joshua and listen to his music by visiting his Local Musician Profile. Tickets for the show are $5 in advance and are available at theOwen.com headquarters located in the old Golden Dragon building (916 2nd Ave. East). Tickets at the door are $6. Joshua will be joined by talented musicians Graham & Pat Dorfman, and Adam Reese. The show will be taking place at Mudtown Pottery, 1835 3rd Ave East, Owen Sound (across from the Bayshore Community Centre). There will be fire-spinning and belly dancing. This show promises to be very psychedelic and experimental. The show comes HIGHLY recommended!

On Saturday night the Meaford Hall Country Festival continues with The Terry Sumsion Trio. The show starts at 8pm and will run until 10pm. Tickets are $25.

Terry Sumsion grew up in a small rural community in Ontario, Canada. His name and music are known in Canada nationwide, across the United States, throughout England, Scotland and Ireland where he has played to sold out audiences. This trio offers a rural country feel for the whole family.~This copy provided by the Meaford Hall web site.

Sunday afternoon the Rusty Gull presents Syl Macintosh with a calypso band from the islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This show starts at 2pm and runs until 5pm. Admission is free, and the show will be taking place on the spectacular Rusty Gull patio! I for one am stoked to be in town this weekend to check this show out. What could be nicer then biking to the Rusty Gull and having a few pints while listening to calypso music with good friends? This weekend I’m looking forward to the Brian Moniz Band, the Tel Quel show at Mudtown, and the calypso band at the Rusty Gull on Sunday afternoon. So get out there all you fans of local music! We’ve got so much going on in our bustling little town! Have a great weekend!
