Habitat For Humanity Needs Your Help!

Habitat For Humanity is currently building 6 homes near the corner of 3rd Ave. West and 11th Street. They have reached what they call the “Building Blitz” stage, and require as many volunteers as possible to help out at the site from August 20th to 25th and potentially beyond. To get on the work site you will require a hardhat and work boots. Both are available at the site, but remember socks if you’re going to borrow work boots. Ryan and I went down to the build site on Wednesday morning and met Neil Kemp. Included here is a 10 minute section of our interview with him discussing the build and the push for volunteers to help them complete their Building Blitz. In future articles, look for a longer podcast in which we wander the site and meet the families that are moving into these new homes!

    i would like to thank ryan and adam for showing an interest in this build and for helping to get information out to the community about Habitat for Humanity. There are so many awsome people to meet on site that are volunteering everyday. It’s truly an uplifting FUN experience!!

    Thanks Theresa, we had a great time on site and there is more coverage yet to come. Keep an eye out for the rest of the audio tour and an interview with some members of the partner families (after we recover from summerfolking!)

    If anyone out there took part in the build and wants to share a story or thought feel free to add a comment or better yet call it in. Dial 519 416 OWEN (6936) and leave an audio message. When we get a few collected we’ll add them to the site.

    WOW that was so nice thank you for coming down and doing the interviews and pictures you guys did a great job we could realy use and need some more help at the Habitat build. I would like to thank everyone that has participated in our 20/20 build. This is going to change mine and all the other 5 families lives so much :). I will never be able to thank everyone enough this is a great way! You two are the best Ryan and Adam again thank you and everyone else too!

    VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED

    We have already accomplished a lot, but we still could use your assistance in finishing our 6 homes for 6 families @ 1127 3rd Avenue West, Owen Sound.

    Our immediate need is for experienced drywall tapers and mudders, as well as plumbers..

    Painting will start after that, and we would like to have 4 to 5 people per house (30 in total), to make the work go quickly.

    Otherwise, we welcome anyone with a willingness to learn and an ability to give us their time.

    There are 2 shifts per day 8 a.m. – noon; and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. You don’t need to pre-register, just show up at the registration desk at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 11th Street West. If you have safety footwear or a construction helmet, please bring it, otherwise we have loaners available.

    We provide: a HFHGB t-shirt
    lunch, snacks and water
    safety footwear & helmet
    FUN

    We appreciate your time and energy and we know the partner families will also be grateful.
