Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound Committee for MMP (Mixed Member Proportional)
Help spread the word about electoral reform in Ontario’s October 10 referendum. Ontario Voters need to know now what they will be voting on!
Some (easy) things you can do:
Friday, August 17th: At the Bean Cellar with Grandmothers & Friends
Anyone interested in helping with cooking African treats, selling T-shirts and Beadwork, or handing out Stephen Lewis Foundation information on September 8th Solidarity Day, please join us for coffee on , about 10:00am. We will be organzing and visiting…so it shouldn’t take more than an hour of your time. Posters and flyers are getting put up in our community, and mayor Ruth Lovell , Tom Pink and Deb Hasswell are dropping by in support of Grandmothers. Our Drums are in rythum and we are set to enjoy a day of Grandmothers….Joy, Kathy 519-371-4236
August 19-21: Montebello Protest
Protesters will gather in Montebello, Quebec to oppose the meeting of George Bush, Stephen Harper, Felipe Calderon and the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) at the Chateau Montebello Hotel. In brief, the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) combines the destructive neo-liberal policies of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the fear and paranoia of post 9-11 “Homeland Security” policies. (Look for a daytime, table-display outside of Owen Sound’s City Hall).
Tuesday, August 28th, 7 pm: Meeting of the Grey Bruce Coalition for Peace and Justice
Our regular, 4th Tuesday meeting of the Grey Bruce Coalition for Peace and Justice will take place at Shorty’s (3rd Ave. E. at 10th St. E.) at 7:00 pm. This is a great time to meet with your local peace loving neighbours and friends and help us organize a better community.
Saturday, September 8th: Grandmothers & Friends March in Solidarity
Grandmothers/Friends will march in Owen Sound to show our solidarity. Particulars to follow so please mark your calendars. The Stephen Lewis Foundation documentaries have opened our eyes to the unheard voices of African Grandmothers, holding the family together against all odds. They need our support.
Friday, September 21: The International Day of Peace
Mark your calender and let’s have Grey Bruce join the worldwide movement to create a Global Ceasefire and a day of peace and nonviolence. Contact here to help organize.
Friday Night Videos at the White Rose Coffeehouse
The White Rose Coffeehouse (organic/fairtrade) is run by a young social activist in Walkerton (across from Walker’s Landing).
That’s what is planned for the near future by the Grey Bruce Coalition for Peace and Justice. If you would like any further information please email gbpeace@rbhope.ca

A small correction it wasn’t a ‘press release’ per se that I forwarded to Adam. This is actually the most recent copy of the GBPJC newsletter. Contact details are included in the post if you would like to get yourself on the list.
Additionally this is as good a time as any to point out that we would love to work with a variety of groups like this, providing them with another outlet for their newsletters and the opportunity to reach more folks in the community. If you are a part of a group that may be interested by all means contact us
