Stirring songs and melodies, exciting and very danceable tune sets, and a very highly defined sense of joie de vivre are what you can expect at an Écosse concert. Bring your smiley face!~This copy is from Ecosse’s website.
AmerCelt Connections w/ Joel Mabus, Mike Agranoff & Johnsmith
Mike is not only a collector of songs and a master at arranging them, but is also a writer of songs and recitations. He has a keen ear for the best of the best, and this only enhances his own writing. If you’re sick of the endless stream of singer songwriters who write for the market, you will find Mike to be a refreshing alternative. He makes us laugh, cry and think, all the while entertaining us long into any evening of music. ~This copy is from Mike Agranoff’s website.
Genticorum are fast becoming one of the most sought-after proponents of Québécois musical culture, firmly rooted in the soil of their native land. The energetic and original traditional ‘power trio’ also incorporates the dynamism of today’s North American and European folk cultures in their music. ~This copy is from Genticorum’s website
Some say he was born into it, some that he was born with it, while others claim he has earned it. With one foot planted firmly in folk music’s traditional roots and the other reaching into its dynamic future, Nathan Rogers isn’t entirely sure what ‘it’ is; singer, songwriter, guitarist, throat-chanter, percussionist, revivalist, or innovator. Whatever it may be, “Nathan has the ability to turn the folk world on its ears.” ~This copy from Nathan Rogers‘ web site.
The Toronto-based “Friends” boast six versatile musicians, five fine singers, two brilliant joke tellers, two widely-sung songwriters, and the occasional Fiery Dragon. This totally uncategorizable collection has been together, in one form or another, for over twenty years, and has played countless clubs, concerts and festivals across Canada and the northern United States. Nobody, not even the Friends themselves, can predict what might happen during one of their concerts, but it always includes humour, powerful vocal harmony, great musicianship, social commentary and an irresistible urge to dance. ~This copy is from the Friends of Fiddlers Green website.
Mark Haines & Tom Leighton established themselves as a duo in 1992 with the release of their first cd, “Foot To Floor (repeat on beat)”. They perform an original and traditional repertoire influenced by their Celtic and North American folk roots. Their engaging humour and personality has made them popular performers in theatres, festivals, concerts, and clubs. These Borealis Recording Artists have rambled along Canadian highways from Ontario to the Maritimes, into the mountains of New York, and across the seas to Britain, Sweden and Taiwan. ~This copy is from Haines and Leighton’s website.
The shows at the Down By the Bay tent start at 7pm. The start times of the individual performers is not made clear on the Summerfolk schedule, so if you want to see a particular act, you’ll have to go down for 7pm and watch the whole thing!!
