The Corbet Foundry Demolition
August 24, 2007
Earlier in the week we covered the Corbet Foundry fire. Since that time 1st Ave West between 10th and 11th has remained closed and under police supervision. At around 4:00 this afternoon demolition began as the structure was obviously deemed unsafe and unworthy of restoration efforts.
There is likely more story to be told here but it’s late on Friday and I’m tired so the images and video will have to suffice. If Adam where here you would likely get a better story but he’s currently en route to Kentucky as an embedded reporter traveling with the Brian Moniz Band.
Look for updates on that story over the weekend.

Hmm. We don’t have homeless people in Owen Sound when we need to house them, but we DO have homeless people …”vagrants”…when we need someone to blame for a fire in a building whose removal will make things so much more convenient for yet another drugstore (in addition to the one with the drive through planned for the east side) to be built.
No investigation is planned. I’m not saying that homeless people trying to stay warm when the temperature dropped might not have caused this fire.
But there are other possibilities and now we’ll never know. I wonder how little you’d have to pay to get a person with a habit to light a match?
Does the drugstore plan include getting rid of the rental housing stock there too? It’s not pretty, but there’s little enough as it is.

I say Amen to above response, I also thought it very interesting that it took so little time to demolish building after it was burnt.
No time for any demonstrations or petitions etc.
