I know the feeling. I was awoken prematurely this morning by the sound of hammering next door. They’ve been renovating since September.

A shared collaborative community space? The local YMCA comes to mind, Harrisson Park too, and really even Heritage Mall although the collaboration by the casual participants is often discouraged or neglected. Thinking about that hit me like a ton of bricks about why so many of the online “collaborative spaces” fail: All those in the “real world” are guided by advisory councils peopled by the more dedicated participants. Even Wikipedia, while receiving casual participation every few seconds, is guided and pruned constantly by a squadron of dedicated and coordinated volunteers.
