Changes in technology have always been tricky
November 15, 2007
There is no doubt that changing the way we do things can be tough at times. This is something that we think a lot about around here. We are after all providing a number of opportunities for you to change the way you consume local information and the technologies used in that process. I struggle a lot with how to make this change as simple as possible for people to grasp.
To that end… the next iteration of this site has a lot more thought put into how you can interact with the information we publish. The site will look a little different for starters. I think you will really like it. The biggest difference is a break from the current format of reverse chronological posts as the site currently exists (this view will still be available by the way for those who like it!).
While this format makes it real easy to see what has happened recently at theOwen, it does so at th expense of a lot of great content that can be quickly buried if we happen to publish a flurry (sorry, had to toss that in b/c the weather updates in the sidebar is currently bright warning red!) of articles all of a sudden. This was the first big lesson learned over our few short months of existence.
The next version of theOwen will also implement a number of additional changes that should make it easier for you to keep up with the discussion. I won’t go into the details here as I am working on a couple of “how-to” tutorial style posts for release with the next site version.
For those of you in dial-up land… we haven’t forgotten about you either. The redesigned site has a couple of features in place to make things far more dial-up friendly.
I will post more about the pending changes over the next week or so… in the meantime enjoy a video. (Not likely to be dial-up friendly of course but if you happen to live in the hinterlands of Grey county it might not be long until you to can waste a few minutes of your day watching youtube!)
