Michael Moore’s SiCKO at the Library
November 16, 2007
The Grey Bruce Coalition for Peace and Justice are presenting another Free Movie night at the Owen Sound Public Library on Tuesday November 27. The doors open at 6:30 and the film begins at 7.
The feature film this time around is Sicko, a Michael Moore documentary about the Health Care system in the United States.
Sicko (or SiCKO) is a 2007 documentary film by American filmmaker Michael Moore that investigates the American health care system, focusing on its for-profit health insurance and pharmaceutical industry. The film compares the non-universal and for-profit U.S. system with the universal and non-profit systems of Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Cuba.
Sicko opened to positive reviews, but also generated criticism and controversy. Some policy specialists have praised the film whilst others have criticised the film for its positive portrayal of the publicly funded health systems of Canada, the United Kingdom and Cuba, and for its negative portrayal of the health care system in the United States. The screening at the Library will include refreshments and a discussion of both the film and our own Canadian health system. The movie is one of the many recent DVDs that have been donated to the Library in the last few months by the GBCPJ. Check out the latest movie additions on the new gbpeace website.
