Apropos to this, a posting of my own thoughts on the issue, which are quite different from the usual posted mresponse, plus some links to backgrounders and activist networks. Given the whole new-by-Christmas news though, I think my advice has become the only pragmatic alternative.
The days are already here where a traditional-music band must hire a lawyer before they can release their local-distribution CD of tunes, just in case, and what we are about to enter is a day when you cannot write, speak, sing or even blog without first checking to see if perhaps ‘royalties’ are due somewhere. Anyone with interests in this topic really should overcome all fear of liberalism, because this is not a partisan issue, and read Lawrence Lessig’s excellent book on the subject. It’ s free and online somewhere, but I’ll leave that quest as an exercise for the reader.
