Ok, so not really Wiarton Willie himself but a chance to spend a little time with him on his big day can be yours for the current bid price of $1,712. But you’ll have to act quick. With only 1 day and 8 hours to go to realize your life long dream of rubbing elbows with one Canada’s best known rodents (likely Canada’s best known “singular” rodent but his brand in this category is somewhat diminished by the sheer ubiquity of the beaver in our culture…)

Here’s what you get for a little over $1700 dollars.

Be on Stage in a white tuxedo (we supply) as a member of the Shadow Cabinet with World famous Wiarton Willie the albino prognosticating groundhog as he predicts an early spring or more winter. This pageant draws all the major television, radio and newsprint media. Enjoy the media party on Friday night, participate in the sighting on Saturday Morning. Have breakfast with the Mayor and dignitaries and be in the afternoon parade traveling down Main St. The Wiarton Willie festival is 52 years old. Have a personal, special meeting with Willie documented with photos and stay 2 nights at the award winning Gadd-About Bed and Breakfast. cheque is made out to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula (Wiarton)

***Update*** The final total is in. A chance to hang out on stage with Wiarton Willie this February 2 (plus accommodations and dinner) has been auctioned off on Ebay for C $1,712.00. Haven’t seen a summary story yet in other media. We’ll have to wait until Groundhog day perhaps to see who the lucky auction winner is.***

    Winning bid was that Jan 12th bid by ‘pdcdrillbits” which one might assume is a short form for “Poly-Crystalline Diamond Drill Bits” … just in case that provides some clues to their identity — speculation is always far more fun than just waiting around for facts ;) — to make matters even more mysterious, the buyer has no eBay history.

    I too Googled pdcdrillbits. Best I can figure the winning bidder has some association with the quarrying industry on the Bruce Peninsula? Only time, or further speculation… will tell
