United Way of Bruce Grey achieves Campaign Goal

January 14, 2009

Despite tough economic times, the United Way of Bruce Grey announces an achievement of their goal of $310 000.

“Despite some significant workplace downturns in campaign, such as the loss of over $3 000 from PPG, other workplace campaigns have come in significantly higher” noted Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn.

The United Way of Bruce Grey is a social service based charity that grants funds to local agencies as well as provides support, information and runs programs within Bruce and Grey Counties.

“Bruce Power continues to be our largest single contributor, despite also being down $3 000 in donations, but the continued expansion of the Hobart Equipment campaign which is up $8 000 and a stunning increasing in the LCBO campaign, up $10 000, has enabled us to achieve our goal” Dobbyn added.

Dobbyn credits the massive increase in both the LCBO and individual donations with putting the United Way over the top.

Dobbyn gratefully acknowledges the support of the community, “This truly speaks to the reach of the United Way out into the community. People see the grassroots, on the street work we do and responded with donations at the counter at LCBOs and by donating directly, and in thier workplaces.”

Individual donations were up from just under $7 000 in 2007 to more than doubling to over $15 000. “When you add in the $18 500 also raised for our backpack program, the numbers are truly mind boggling” Dobbyn marvels.

The United Way of Bruce Grey still has a few workplace campaigns that need to report in, and a final total will be announced at the end of January.
