Petition for Ban of Oil Tankers

March 10, 2009

A petition was recently started in British Columbia by an organization known as Dogwood Initiative. They hope to eventually ban the use of oil tankers to help protect and preserve the North Coast. In an attempt to spread the message across the country, the organization also put forth ‘The Loonie Project’. From the Dogwood Initiative website you can order removable decals that can be placed over loonies or any other smooth surface. The decal has the image of the loon surrounded by oil with the caption ‘notankers.ca‘. Each time you spend money you’ll be helping others become aware of the message.  By visiting the site and registering your loonie, you can see how many people across Canada have been a  part of the ‘loonie project’. The ‘loonie project’ is a great example of how a simple but brilliant idea can have such a powerful impact so many people and really get a message across. With an idea like this and the strength of numbers, almost anything can be accomplished. Spread the word and help Dogwood Initiative in their fight for the ban of oil tankers. Check out notankers.ca for more information about their petition and the’loonie project’.
