Vote for Local Video online
March 16, 2009
Three local businesses combined forces in a unique way last week, and entered what they hope to be a winning submission to Doritos national “Be The Doritos Guru” contest.
The contest, launched mid February, asks consumers to name their new as-of- yet-unnamed flavor and create a thirty second commercial promoting it. Submissions have ranged from the quirky to the sublime, as snackers from across the country vie for the $25,000 cash prize. In addition to the initial cash prize the winner will also receive one percent of the net sales form the new tortilla chip flavor.
A local trio of businesses combined their talents and creativity to come up with what they hope is the winning name and commercial. Todd Graham, of Unique Apparel, Steve Zamin of www.imagewraps.ca, and Jason Gem Webb and Melissa Ruth of Gemini Films.ca wrote, directed and created the thirty second spot, using local talent, and locations for their shoot.
The finalists are decided by a panel of judges as well as internet judging on the Doritosguru.ca website. From the field of submissions received on the Doritos website, five semi finalists will be chosen, and showcased on Much Music, and then voting will take place once again. The winning commercial and name will then receive the grand prize of $25,000 plus one percent of the net sales of the new flavor.
