Silent Film Double-Bill
June 15, 2009
The Great Lakes Musicians’ Collective presents a silent film double-bill on Saturday, July 11th, in the Downtown Bookstore with original, live scores performed by the Silent Film Ensemble. “Man with a Movie Camera” is a famed full-length ‘experimental documentary’ following the men, women, and machinery powering the pre-war Soviet Socialist People’s Republic. It provides a striking view of the communist ethos, with camera work and effects that still resonate today. The opening short “The Seashell and the Clergyman” is widely considered the first Surrealist film; taking the viewer on a bizarre journey through labyrinthine corridors replete with symbolic imagery. Admission is $10. Tickets are available from Fromager’s Music, the Bean Cellar, and the Downtown Bookstore.
