Another Fabulous House Concert
September 29, 2009
The beer was on ice, the freshly picked veggies were all washed and sliced, the cookies were baked and the coffee was brewed, the house was packed… the House Concert was ready to start…
Last Saturday night Charles Glasspool and the Big Love rocked the house to raise funds to finish their first EP “Mudtown”. It was an amazing concert with great original music. If you missed it, be sure to check out some highlights of the evening.

September 24, 2009
Spaces are going quickly! Register today for the Seventh Annual Bridges to Better Business Event!
It’s not very often that you’re able to spend an afternoon with business colleagues, talking, thinking and focusing on business operations. It’s the best investment around.
Join us on Friday October 2nd 11:00am – 6:00 pm, at the Bayshore Community Centre, Owen Sound for the 7th Annual Bridges to Better Business Event and spend the afternoon working on your business. This year’s theme will be “Review, Renew and Revitalize…Your Business and You”.
Bridges to Better Business is not a business seminar, or training session where you listen to someone tell you things you already know. Bridges is an opportunity to learn and share with other business owners.
After a tremendous networking luncheon, the experienced panel take over, consisting of Jeff Sziklai of BellWyck Packaging, Neale Kemp of Aspin Kemp & Associates, Susan White of European Bakery Café, Brad Locking of Locking Business Furnishings, and Marsha Barrow of Butchart Estate Bed & Breakfast. The panel discussion will be followed by the chance to do some peer to peer sharing and learning.
This is followed by a mini trade showcase providing businesses with an opportunity to display their products and services. “Wined” down the day with a reception, where you have an opportunity to visit and network with other business owners and make terrific connections

The Silent Film Ensemble – Roxy Fundraiser
September 23, 2009
The fundraiser came about by thinking of doing something special for the Silent Film Ensemble’s first anniversary. We started with “Haxan: Witchcraft through the Ages” last year on Halloween and have done a total of 5 films since (Haxan, Nanook of the North, the Passion of Joan of Arc, The Seashell and the Clergyman – a short film -, and Man with a Movie Camera). We also wanted to do something that celebrated the history of cinema in Owen Sound and the Roxy is Owen Sound’s oldest, still operating theatre (although, it is no longer a full-time cinema).
Saturday, October 17, 2009 – 7 p.m. at the Roxy in Owen Sound.
“The Kid”, starring Charlie Chaplin, with an original live soundtrack by the Silent Film Ensemble. http://www.myspace.com/silentfilmensemble
This exciting event will also be featuring three original opening silent shorts by local film-makers, local food from Around the Sound Market and the Rocky Raccoon Cafe, & “A History of Cinema in Owen Sound” Photo Display courtesy of Fotoart and the J. James photo collection.
“The Kid” was Charlie Chaplin’s first feature length film. It follows Chaplin in his famous ‘Tramp’ role as he raises an mistakenly orphaned boy; the kid (Jackie Coogan). The film is a classic of comedy and tragedy, mixing Chaplin’s ability to make an audience laugh and brought to the point of tears. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kid_(1921_film)
