Who Is This Adam Reese Character Anyways?
Hello all! My name is Adam Reese and I’ll be contributing plenty of content to theOwen.com, so it struck me that it would be nice to let you all know a little bit about myself. I was born in the old General and Marine Hospital and raised just down the road from the Owen Sound Public Library. I attended Dufferin school way back in the day, and moved on to Hillcrest and West Hill as I grew older. As a child I loved the area for all the wild spaces and parks. I don’t think at the time that I and my chums appreciated how special the place was, particularly in that our parents could push us out the door at nine in the morning and not see us until after five minutes of yelling out the back door that dinner was ready.
I have left the city and returned a few times since then, working on undergraduate degrees in English and Creative Writing in Victoria, tree-planting in northern Alberta and British Columbia, and developing my chops as a singer/songwriter on Saltspring Island.
Here in the Sound I have been involved with the Canadian Mental Health Association, volunteering with their “Friends and Neighbours” puppeteering program and the now defunct YouthNet program. I have worked for Frontier Furniture as a finishing sander, and I have also done a stint working the phones with NuComm. My passion is for music, and I perform often in local venues. Jazzmyn’s and the Uptown Piano and Jazz bar have been especially gracious in helping me get my music out to the public through live performance. I plan to apply my connections in the local music community by developing bios and concert listings for local artists here at theOwen.com.
I look forward to all you Owen Sound folks sending me notice of community events that you would like posted on theOwen.com, and I encourage you to take advantage of the sight. Our hope is that your participation will flesh out theOwen.com. Think of us as your cyber-bulletin board that never runs out of tacks. We’ll be opening a downtown office soon, and we encourage you to drop in and take a look around. I can’t wait to meet you all!
Adam Reese
