Area Fall Fairs

This time of the year brings us the beginning of Fall Fair Season. There are many towns in the Grey Bruce area that host fall fairs. It’s a time of year for many to show off their crops, their livestock, crafts… you name it. Some communities have already had their fair for this year, but there is many upcoming ones. Take a look.
Markdale Fall Fair – Fri – Aug 28 – Sun – Aug 30, 2009
151st traditional fall fair features homecraft competition, heavy horse pull, gymkhana, 4-H shows, baby contest, pet show, children’s activities, goat show and fun for the whole family.

Celebrate Tomato Season in Grey-Bruce

Just received the latest newsletter from the Around the Sound Local Food Market… ’tis the season to enjoy fresh, locally grown produce.
If you missed the fabulous Strawberry Social, here’s an invitation to what will no doubt be another sell-out at the Wiarton Market.
Come out and celebrate tomato season in Grey-Bruce at our Fresh Tomato Pasta Dinner at the Wiarton Farmers’ Market.
Join us this Friday, August 21st at the Farmers’ Market in Bluewater Park. Market runs from 1pm, dinner from 5 to 8pm. Live music! Kids activities! And a Natural Gardening Seminar by Harold Priebe, author of “Old is New Again”.
Dinner features local organic tomatoes with bocconcini cheese and fresh basil salad, pasta with seasonal vegetables, grilled sausage and bison meatballs, fresh baked italian bread, homemade peach pie, coffee and punch.

Lauren Best in Concert

Summerfolk may be over for this year, however, as their catch phrase says “the beat goes on”.
A very talented young group of performers will be playing at St. George’s Hall on August 29, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Lauren Best will be headlining featuring LUM, Tyler Wagler and Neil Morley and poet laureate Kristan Anderson.

City Hall Art Crawl

Have you been to The Art Crawl yet this summer? Time’s running short with only 3 Saturday mornings left to go. Whether you’re an artisan or simply want to shop and take in the creative expertise of local artists, this is a great spot to visit on Saturday mornings.
Owen Sound’s open air art market. Every Saturday morning in the Percy England Parkette … right beside City Hall.
The Art Crawl is running for the next 3 Saturdays until Labour Day. It runs from 8am to generally noon. Weather permitting. Some people do have tents and are more all weather vendors.
Want to be a vendor? All work must be original, handcrafted work by you.
This year there is no advanced registration or cost. You just come, and set up on the day.
You must supply your own stands/tables/display.
