A Summerfolk Photo Gallery
August 21, 2007
The following gallery contains a variety of shots taken over the course of the weekend while attending the 32nd Annual Summerfolk, Music and Craft Festival. It was quite an enjoyable weekend all round and there will be more coverage of the events over the course of the day/week as Adam and I pour over the audio recordings, video and the many, many photos taken. On that note if you have great Summerfolk shot you would like to share. Drop it in an email to photos@theOwen.com.
Summerfolk Recovery Day
August 20, 2007
There won’t be to much posted on the site today. Adam and I are in Summerfolk recovery mode. Great music, great friends, late night jams… we need a bit of a break.
That’s not to say we’re not working. There is plenty of images, audio and video to sift through. It’s a bit of lazy and gray day so lounging on the couch encoding video and sorting photos is the perfect way to pass some time.
On that note if you have any tidbits to share about your Summerfolk experience please send them our way. Got a great digital photo from the weekend? we’ll add it our community photo gallery. You can submit a photo and any thoughts to photos@theowen.com.
Would you like to review a performance, a craft exhibit, the food court? Have you an idea or two you think should be shared with the festival organizers? (great job by the way to all involved in making the weekend run smoothly, more on that one coming up in a conversation I recorded with the GBFS president and Festival Coordinator, Brenda Scott)
If you have a thought to share you can add it as a comment here or better yet call it in. Simply dial 519 416 OWEN (6936) and leave your thoughts as a voice mail for inclusion in our Summerfolk coverage.
The first posts in our Summerfolk review should start running tomorrow. In the meantime, if you are looking for something to pass your web surfing time then I encourage you to take a crack at Have1.com’s Summer Web Hunt Contest. Many great prizes are available and the contest runs until the end of the month
Habitat For Humanity Needs Your Help!
August 16, 2007
Habitat For Humanity is currently building 6 homes near the corner of 3rd Ave. West and 11th Street. They have reached what they call the “Building Blitz” stage, and require as many volunteers as possible to help out at the site from August 20th to 25th and potentially beyond. To get on the work site you will require a hardhat and work boots. Both are available at the site, but remember socks if you’re going to borrow work boots. They would appreciate even an hour of your time if you have some to spare! Keep your eyes on theOwen.com for a full-length audio podcast of our site tour with Neil Kemp!
Ryan and I went down to the build site on Wednesday morning and met Neil Kemp. Included here is a 10 minute section of our interview with him discussing the build and the push for volunteers to help them complete their Building Blitz. In future articles, look for a longer podcast in which we wander the site and meet the families that are moving into these new homes!
Track 1: Ryan and Adam Interview Neil Kemp (the sampler version, around 10 minutes)
You can play the track below or download the show (right click, save as)
Track 2: The Complete site tour with Neil Kemp, volunteers, the homeowners and lots of saws (sorry about that!) (around 32 minutes)

A Photo Assignment For You
August 8, 2007
Here’s your first assignment; send us photos of wildlife living within the city limits. You can photograph any living bird, beast, reptile or insect, including that pesky squirrel in mid-flight on his way to a delicious rendez-vous with your birdfeeder, or perhaps a shot of one of the enigmatic foxes that live within city limits. Please email us your photographs at photos@theowen.com!
~There MAY even be a reward in it for you!~
This assignment is presented now because we are really proud of theOwen.com’s latest development, that being our community photo galleries. We now have the ability to organize and present your photographs in a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing format. Here’s an example of one of the numerous galleries we’ve created in the past few weeks.
Good luck photographers!
