Yes, there was an election..

October 12, 2007

Be sure that we are aware that an election happened earlier this week. That said I have been pondering the outcome and working to put together an appropriate summary and next steps article. Look for it here on the site early next week.

In the meantime if you have thoughts about the election outcome, the defeat of the MMP electoral reform in our recent referendum or other thoughts feel free to add your thoughts below or call in an audio feedback comment to 519 416 6936.

Our First conversation with Shane Jolley

October 5, 2007

This is just a quick pointer back to the early days of theOwen.com. One of the first people we sought out for a discussion of local ideas and issues was Shane Jolley. The following interview was recorded in February of 2007 (which was before the actual launch of this site) and long before any campaigning began. It is likely the 20th or so post added to the site and now we are pushing over 300 plus articles about locally relevant issues, events and other great tidbits of local info (a big thanks to Adam for getting things to where we are today).

With all that has happened since last February, and the number of posts added regularly to the site things can get a little buried (we are working on that one for sure!). So I thought I might resurface our first Shane Jolley interview because it speaks to the future that we each see for the area and I think people should get that more now than ever.

You can listen to the interview with the player below or you can download the show(right click save as).

Bruce-Grey Election Update

October 5, 2007

I had the opportunity to drop by the Bayshore this evening to listen to the Bruce-Grey candidates speak at the Owen Sound Chamber of Commerce sponsored all candidates meeting. I would go into detail but it’s very late and it’s been a very long day. So instead I will let the candidates speak for themselves. The following audio clip recorded at the meeting includes the closing remarks given by each of the candidates.

One point of interest though was the discussion following the debate regarding the recent poll results that put Shane Jolley and the Green party only 9 points back of the longstanding Conservative MPP, Bill Murdoch. There was also a few remarks regarding the audience support for candidates as indicated by the applause following each final remark. Here is a screenshot of the recorded audio file for comparison (sorry I am a helpless geek sometimes, especially so when over tired!)
