свети атанасвикматрациWow. It’s hard to believe that November is here. With it comes the getting ready for Christmas season. Many stores are showing off Christmas displays now.
Kids are compiling their wish lists… we’re decorating our homes… we’re doing some shopping and hiding stuff away… the list goes on…

The Festival of Northern Lights kicks off later this month on November 20th with the opening ceremonies at 6:00 pm at the Queen’s Park Bandshell. The festival runs daily from 5:00 – 11:00 pm from November 20 to January 3rd. Check their website for events and celebrations.

On Saturday, November 21, Santa makes his way to Owen Sound for the Owen Sound Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade at 10:00 am Downtown Owen Sound. For info. call Cheryl Govier (519)371-4717.

That’s not all… there’s shopper’s nights and parades in various communities around Grey Bruce, Christmas bazaars and sales, concerts, and so much more. It’s such a great time of the year. Enjoy!

Busy Jazz Week Coming Up

Early winter weekends are getting busy with many gigs to choose from. Check back here often for updates and changes as well as on the calendar at Jazz By The Bay.

From next Sunday, October 25, until end of November, Bobby Dean Blackburn brings his vibrant personality and talent on keyboard and vocals to Sauble Dunes Restaurant, Sauble Beach. With him is crackerjack drummer Frank Dematteis for this afternoon gig at 2:30 p.m. More information and reservations 519-422-2745.

One of my favourite Ladies of Jazz, Diana Campbell, accompanied by legendary keyboard artist, Don Buchanan, will entertain diners at Chaise Lounge, Owen Sound. Jazz entertainment at this location has previously been on Saturdays in the past so please note the date. Reservations 519-371-8141

Thursday, October 22, at 8:00 p.m.
Ray Bonneville plays a unique mix of blues jazz and roots at McGinty’s Café Upstairs, Meaford. Winner of a Juno Award in 1999 for his third album, Gust of Wind, Ray’s extensive history is detailed on website Ray Bonneville.

Thursday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m.
The Mr. Blues Revue takes over the Roxy Theatre, Owen Sound, on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The show is a tribute to the late James Wayner, long time front man for The Bearcats who are appearing together with special guest Juno Award Winner Jack de Keyzer, guitar, whose CD Blues Thing garnered rave revues.
Also in the lineup are Chris Murphy, sax, and Erin McCallum, vocals. The benefit performance is in aid of Kiwanis Harrison Park playground.

Gotta mark my calendar for Friday, November 6, for Stardust Big Band at the Queen’s Hotel, Port Elgin, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Rebecca Binendyk is singing with a big band that play my kind of dance music from the 30s and 40s, as well as new arrangements of contemporary jazz tunes. Dragon’s Den Meaford Finalists Selected

The Selection Committee for Dragons’ Den Meaford is pleased to announce the seven finalists who will pitch their business ideas to the panel of ‘Dragons’ on October 21st:

Meredith F. Cowan, Meaford
Kim Giffen, Thornbury
Jim Fewster, Meaford
Chantelle Boyes, Meaford
Jason Moore, Meaford
Normand Comeau, Priceville
Tanya Vesely, Meaford

All applicants were required to submit a one-page synopsis detailing their business idea with an explanation of its relation to one of the four pillars of the Municipality of Meaford’s Economic Development Strategy… Retail, Agribusiness, Tourism or Green.

Modeled after the popular CBC TV show, Dragons’ Den Meaford will take place at Meaford Hall on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 beginning at 7pm. Applicants will pitch their ideas to 5 local ‘Dragons’ for feedback and hopefully, cash. Each Dragon will bring a minimum of $1,000 to invest in the idea(s) they like best. This means that potentially, an entrepreneur could walk away with $5,000 for business start-up! Also up for grabs are a free business bank account, business plan assistance, business start-up mentoring, admission to a number of entrepreneurial workshops, an advertising package and more.

Georgian Bay Extreme Sports Film Festival

It’s showtime. The films are in with entries from the Georgian Bay area, Canada and around the world! Come see over 2 hours of high-quality action-packed films covering a huge variety of eXtreme sports.

The Georgian Bay eXtreme Sports Film Festival is a new festival that is seeking to highlight the talent of extreme and hardcore riders throughout the Great Lakes Region. While YouTube has ushered in a whole new wave of DIY videographers this festival seeks to unite both sports enthusiasts and indy filmmakers under one roof where festival-goers can celebrate these achievements and share the stoke in an all out wild night of silver-screen mayhem.

The festival will be hosted in the Weider Room of the Blue Mountain Inn at the Blue Mountain Resort, 110 Jozo Weider Blvd. Collingwood ON.

This time of the year brings us the beginning of Fall Fair Season. There are many towns in the Grey Bruce area that host fall fairs. It’s a time of year for many to show off their crops, their livestock, crafts… you name it. Some communities have already had their fair for this year, but there is many upcoming ones. Take a look.
