A very talented young group of performers will be playing at St. George’s Hall on August 29, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Lauren Best will be headlining featuring LUM, Tyler Wagler and Neil Morley and poet laureate Kristan Anderson.

Streets Alive! Owen Sound’s Busker Extravaganza

Calling all Buskers! Streets Alive! is coming to Downtown Owen Sound on August 21st and 22nd, 2009. It is a busking festival showcasing a wide variety of local and non local grassroots performers, seasoned veterans, in the age old tradition of crowd involvement and pure unadulterated exciting entertainment!

Friday, August 21, 2009 to Saturday, August 22, 2009

Friday night will be a preview that will showcase select buskers on the natural stage at Owen Sound City Hall. There will be a mix of acoustic, and electric, artisans and performance pieces. It’s bound to be an exciting evening!

Saturday will have a variety of buskers in a various key locations throughout the downtown area, as well as around the Sydenham river and spilling into the harbour area. There will be a lots of sights, sounds, and moving performances for all!

Busker categories include:
* Children’s entertainers
* Musicians of all sorts
* “Street shtick” i.e. jugglers, magicians, fire twirlers
* Physical performers i.e. acrobats, mimes, dancers
* Visual artists, i.e. caricature artists, face painters


OWEN SOUND CULTURAL AWARDS

Nominations are now being accepted for the inaugural Owen Sound Cultural Awards. There are ten award categories encompassing all literary, performing and visual arts as well as heritage, architectural design, and cultural patronage. Award winners will receive a unique, handcrafted award, the Georgian Bay Shore marquetry box designed and constructed by local artist Diane Edwards.

Nomination packages are available online at www.owensound.ca/culturalawards or may be picked up in person at the Service Owen Sound counter at City Hall, 808 2nd Avenue East. The package includes a detailed list of award categories, nomination criteria and procedures, and a nomination form. The deadline for applications is October 5, 2009.

The Cultural Awards are a high-priority action item from Owen Sound’s Cultural Master Plan. They are an initiative of the Cultural Advisory Committee, a committee of Owen Sound City Council. Its members include two City councillors, community volunteers, and representatives of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library and other cultural organizations.

The Owen Sound Cultural Awards will be presented at an Awards Ceremony and Celebration at the Roxy Theatre on October 15, 2009. Tickets for the event are now on sale at the Roxy Box Office. Phone (519) 371-2833 to book yours.

Electric Eclectics Festival 4th Edition

If you missed last year’s festival or any previous to that, you’re not going to want to miss this one…

3 Days of Camping and music in Meaford, Ontario.
The 4th annual edition of the Electric Eclectics Festival takes place on the July 31st – August 2nd long weekend in rural Meaford, Ontario. Concerts on several stages, sound installations, unique vendors, and many surprises, are all part of the Festival.

Come of the performers at this year’s festival include: Holy F*ck, Katie Stelemanis, Yvat, Gosh Damn! DJs, Exit 2012, Pat Bush Projections, 54×3, Marla Hlady and Charles Glasspol + The Big Love.
